Search for the Front Projector (FP)

Note: originally written in 1997, this information is fairly old.

My search is for a front projector in the < $30k range and an accompaning line doubler/quadrupler. Actually this is about twice my budget, but it doesn't hurt to consider. These numbers are just specifications and prices, I don't think this is the correct way to choose a FP, but it is a good starting point. I am not even considering LCD projectors due to the pixelization effect, and flat panels displays are just not big enough yet. I would like to have a 10 foot diagonal screen but I'm willing to settle for a 100" screen. DLP is a possible alternative but the resolution just isn't high enough yet and prices are still a bit exorbitant. For all out picture quality at a sensible cost, the CRT sill reigns supreme.
